Wiskey Weekly # 3

I'd like to begin by apologizing for the long gap between articles, I'd like to say it was because I was on a 3 month scotch binge but I can't. Monetary issues limit my scotch purchases and as such, I don't get to drink anything decent all that often. However, today I will be covering one of my favourite scotches, one that I could drink on any occasion, the Glenlivet.

The Glenlivet is old, really old. Founded in 1824 near Ballindalloch in Moray, Scotland, it is one of the highest selling malt whiskeys around the world. The Glenlivet, yes it is actually called "The Glenlivet" is a single malt from the Speyside region of Scotland. It is aged in oak casks that used to contain bourbon, and comes in 12, 15, 18, 21, and 25 year old varieties. I've personally only tried out the 12 year old, and if it gets better with age, than I don't want the 25 year old, because it may be the best whiskey I'll ever have. Speyside scotch usually has a lighter taste to it and the Glenlivet is no exception. While I say its light, I mean by comparison to an Islay, which has a heavy peat smoke taste. Overall I found it very easy to drink, going down smooth and having a great nose and taste. Definitely a scotch I'd keep around for special occasions, since it is a bit more expensive than some, or if you're rich then this won't do you wrong as a daily drinker.
